HTCC Vaccine & Booster
Stop Six Community COVID Myths and Facts - Vaccines and Boosters Update- June 2022 Are vaccines available for people who are homebound? INFORMATION People who are homebound may call the Tarrant County Public Health hotline at 817-248-6299 and say that they are homebound and need a vaccine. The hotline staff will take their information and forward it to the appropriate contact on Thursdays each week. Either MedStar or the local fire department will deliver the vaccine to the person at home. Is it okay to get a booster from a different manufacturer than my original doses? Yes. Currently, there are no rules against receiving a booster different than your initial COVID-19 vaccine. The FDA allows the use of mix-and-match booster doses for available vaccines. Studies have shown boosters from a different brand showed similar or higher antibody responses than from the same brand. There have been no signs of safety problems with any of the booster doses. https://covid19.nih.gov/news-and-stories/mixing-matching-covid-19-vaccine-booster-doses Do older adults still need boosters? Why should older people still take boosters? Yes. The CDC currently recommends a booster shot for everyone age 5 and older after completing their primary vaccine series. Adults ages 50 and older are recommended to get a second booster 4 months after their 1st booster. There are no upper age limits as older adults are more at risk for severe COVID-19 infection and death. More than 81% of COVID related deaths occur in people over 65, particularly in those with chronic conditions like diabetes and heart disease. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/booster-shot.html#:~:text=CDC%20recommends%20a%202nd%20booster,are%20moderately%20or%20severely%20immunocompromised https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/need-extra-precautions/people-with-medical-conditions.html#:~:text=Older%20adults%20are%20at%20highest,people%20ages%2018%2D29%20years.
