What is the current situation with vaccines for monkeypox?
• The JYNNEOS vaccine is approved for the prevention of smallpox and monkeypox.
• It is given as a two-dose series 28 days apart.
• People are fully vaccinated against monkeypox 14 days after receiving the second vaccine.
• It is not yet known how long protection from the vaccine lasts.
Who should get vaccinated?
People who have been exposed to monkeypox or are at risk of exposure, including people who:
• Have come into contact with someone with monkeypox in the past 2 weeks.
• Know one of their sex partners in the past 2 weeks has been diagnosed with monkeypox.
• Have had multiple sex partners in the past 3 weeks in an area with known monkeypox cases.
People who think they might be eligible for the vaccine should contact their healthcare provider or local health department.
What is the status of the Monkeypox outbreak?
• United States: 25,492 reported cases; 8 reported deaths
• Texas: 2,722 reported cases
• Tarrant County: 202 reported cases; 19 reported in October
