Houston Health When to Quarantine

If you had close contact with someone who has COVID-19, it’s important to quarantine. Close contact is generally considered 15 minutes or more over 24 hours. Here is the latest CDC guidance, based on the latest science. If you are up to date on your COVID-19 vaccination and get exposed, you do not need to stay home unless you develop symptoms. Wear a mask in public for ten days and get tested on day five, even if you don’t have symptoms. If you are not boosted or got your initial vaccination more than six months ago, stay home for five days and wear a mask in public for an additional five days. Get tested on day five, even if you don’t have symptoms. In either scenario, if you get symptoms, isolate immediately and get tested. Stay home until you know the results. If you haven’t yet been vaccinated against COVID-19, “Take Your Best Shot” at getting closer to normal by doing so as soon as possible.
