Houston Health When to Isolate

If you test positive for COVID-19, it’s important to isolate to prevent infecting other people. Here is the latest CDC guidance based on the latest science. If you have COVID-19 stay in your home for five days, ideally in a room separate and apart from people who live with you. If your symptoms stop or are resolving after five days, you can end isolation. However, it’s important to continue wearing a mask for five more days while around other people. If your symptoms last more than five days, you should remain isolated at home until they resolve. Day zero is your first day of symptoms or your positive viral test. Day one is the first full day after your symptoms developed or your test specimen was collected.
