Prepare Children

Making the choice to vaccinate your child against COVID-19 significantly reduces their chances of getting seriously ill. It also helps slow the spread at home, in school, and throughout the community. Here are tips to help prepare you and your young one for the vaccine. First, talk to your child about what to expect so they're not surprised when they arrive for the shot. don't give your child pain relievers before vaccination. If they have mild side effects after vaccination, you can provide appropriate over-the-counter pain relievers. Make sure to talk to your doctor or nurse about any allergies your child may have. it's best that your child is seated or lying down during vaccination to prevent complications. After the shot, your child should stay at the vaccination site for 15 - 30 minutes for observation. This allows immediate treatment if there is a rare allergic reaction. If you haven't yet been vaccinated against COVID-19, "Avoid the Drama" and get closer to normal by doing so as soon as possible. Free Houston Health Department vaccination clinics accept walk ins and are located across the city. Find a nearby site at houstonhealth.org or by calling 832-393-4220.
